Almost from the startup of Fugawee we have had inquiries about Colonial shoes for children. It was not that we didn't see a need for kids' shoes but we couldn't see the answers to the hassles of lost buckles, slippery leather soles, making new buckle holes as feet grew, children's sizes, etc.
We have come up with what we see as the answers. We are
now producing
a shoe that has a period appearance and the features that a parent wants on a child's feet.
. This is what we did.
We used a modern standard unisex child's' last. It's a little on the "chunky" side, being made to allow for healthy feet. It looks good on the historical side.
We used Velcro (tm) fastening for security. Shoes are tightly fastened at all times and may be adjusted as the child grows.
We used permanent buckles. They are secured in such a way that they can't be lost. The buckles have no function in holding the shoe in place.
The uppers are made of water-proof and scuff-resistant leather We used non-skid soles to keep the parent's minds at ease. These shoes can also go to church or school.
Sizes. There is such a hodgepodge about children's sizes that you may order by standard size or by length. Measure the length of the kid's foot and order that.
And all of this at the best price we could manage for a quality shoe in sizes from Toddler 12 through Childs' 1 to 6.
