A
common man's shoe Of the
1730
1760s
The
left/right Concord In Natural (Buff) is an unlined shoe made of a heavier
leather than the Franklin. We wanted more of a common man's shoe. Then
we named it the Concord in honor of the heroes who left their homes and
their wife-warm beds to gather at the Concord bridge and dare the British
Empire to do its worst.
Buckles are not included in the prices shown.
|
How long is your tongue?
Early in the 18th century the long tongue was in but around 1860 styles
changed and it started to shorten.

The Franklin is a good choice for the gentleman
of means.
The
left/right Franklin is made of very high quality supple black leather
a gentlemen of means could enjoy. It has a normal heel and is leather
lined. The toe is slightly squared but not square enough to limit the
style to pre-1735. With a longish tongue, the Franklin is a good choice
for the gentleman of means. To get a little snobbish, paint your heels
red with vinyl paint. Originally, that meant that you had been received
at Court but it was widely imitated by all kinds of fops and pretenders.
See the film "Rob Roy. The latchets will accept a 1¼ to 1½
inch buckle. Sizes 7 to 13 in E width only.
Buckles are not included in the prices shown.

The left/right "Lexington" is unlined and made
of a heavier leather than the Franklin. The Lexington is 5/8 of an inch
deeper then the regular Concord. The Lexington only comes in smooth at
this time. This shoe is to afford the more mature reenactors space to
place orthotics inserts or Inner soles without compromising fit. Thus
giving more time to walk about, instead of sitting with aching feet wishing
you could go visiting. At this time we carry sizes 9D to 12EE.
Buckles are not included in the prices shown.

Fugawee's Civil War Contract bootees are available in

before cutting out the pieces for the uppers. This is the reason that
Fugawees need no double socks to protect against blisters and no soaking
in order to break them in.

The Southern or Monticello model. Also
appropriate as a work shoe from the early 1800's until the present day
The Monticello was patterned after the
shoes shown on a Gettysburg statue of Civil War Confederate soldiers around
a mounted Gen. Robert E. Lee. It is reputed that the Confederates had
a shoe factory at a Florida town called Monticello. However, there is
also a Monticello in Alabama. We find no trace of the Monticello, Florida
factory it is under the old Coca-Cola plant. When ordering please size
up a 1/2 size.

The Trekker series
This type of footwear was seen in paintings
of English sporting scenes in the mid-1700s. When ordering please size
up a 1/2 size. Because there is no toe box. The toe box was first used
in ballet shoes in the early 1800's and became widely used from the
1860's up to today.
There were also half boots from the 1750s,
cut a little higher than modern ankle boots, which descend from them
and worn for shooting and by the military. St. James Chronicle, 1763,
comments on 'tradesmen who ape their betters....breeches almost met
by a pair of shoes that reached about three and a quarter inches above
the ankles.' They were typical wear for both sides during the American
War of Independence (see Peale's portrait of Captain John Harleston
of Chicago.")
Fugawee offers them in straight last
left and right and soon Deep.

Surprisingly comfortable. Connie is modeled after a photo in Baumgartner's
book on Clothing in Colonial Williamsburgh. Connie is a straight last,
heeled shoe. Surprisingly comfortable. You will forget that it is a straight
last shoe the second or third time you wear it. We have Connie in black
smooth calfskin or suede and a few in natural color. The naturals were
meant to allow the customer to dye a shoe to match her outfit. The Baumgartner
book shows a natural color shoe like the one shown and was the model for
our Connie. Connie has a 1-3/4 inch heel and is available in sizes 6B
to 10C in NOW in whole and half sizes. Price is$82.50 plus $10.00 shipping.

2 PIECE STACK, SMOOTH LEATHER
The Stovepipe boot is dated 1847 to 1900. It was first known as a Common
Boot. Reaching almost to the knee and wide enough so the trousers could
be tucked. We may find that it dates back further but so far that is the
best dates I can find. We have had requests for this two piece boot, so
we hope it will fill in for the persona you are trying to create. This
boot should be good for drovers, prospectors and shooters (before the
cowboy boots).
Sizes are 5EE to 15EE. whole and half sizes. Be sure to have your calf
measurement when ordering.

The Abilene A hand made full leather, lined boot not a
plastic boot. Made wit the best available leather it has a rich brown
supple leather, with chocolate fancy work. Also it features steel shank,
brass nailed arch rubber ¼ sole full welt construction not to
mention. This is a great boot, I have to admit I am a sneaker wearer
and never have been much into western boots. I tried a pair on and went
out with my wife to shop and go to dinner. The boots had just arrived
and I put on a pare and had no problems after 6 hours on my feet.
This boot can be resoled two or three times. So this is a twenty year
boot.
